Pocket: The bubble-like formation that the offensive line creates after the snap. This creates a curved wall to protect the quarterback.
Field Vision: The player's ability to see all of the open spots on the field.
Mobility: The quarterbacks ability to move around the field while still maintaining his passing form.
Lob: A pass that is thrown so that it travels in an arch. This is used on deep, down-field passes.
Route: The designed path the receiver is supposed to run on a pass play.
High Pointing the Ball: Jumping at the correct time, so that the receiver catches the ball as soon as it is in his arms' length.
Get Open: When the receiver has distance between himself and the defender.
Body Control: The ability of a player to turn his body in the air to give him the best chance of catching the ball.
After the Catch: The ability of a receiver to run the ball after making the catch.
The Slot: The space between the outside lineman and the wide receiver.
Separation: When a blocker uses his arm length to keep the defender from grabbing his body.
Leverage: The advantage gained by the blocker when he lifts the defender backwards on his heels, forcing him to lose all momentum.
Hand-Off: When the quarterback gives the ball to the running back.
